Research Scientist - Environmental Science - Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Impounded Rivers
PostDoc Position
Universität Koblenz-Landau · Department of Environmental Sciences
The Institute for Environmental Sciences Landau invites applications for a research scientist in aquatic physics and biogeochemistry. The successful candidate will play a central role in the project „Methane emissions from impounded rivers: from measurements to models”. As part of this project, the physical and biogeochemical processes that control methane and carbon dioxide emission rates from water bodies within the Rhine River basin will be investigated. The work includes a synthesis of available sediment data, comprehensive field measurements of gas fluxes and process-based modelling of carbon transformation and transport in impounded rivers and their sediments. The joint project of the Environmental Physics group in Landau, the Federal Institute of Hydrology and the Leibniz-Institute of Freshwater Ecology is funded by the German Research Foundation and is expected to strongly interact with a variety of ongoing research projects.
Your profile:
Applicants should have a background in environmental science, environmental engineering, geoscience, or related fields and ideally have scientific experience in measuring and modelling carbon fluxes in aquatic systems. Further requirements include the capability of conducting independent research, excellent communication skills in English and scientific writing.
We offer:
The position can either be filled at postdoc level (100% of salary scale TV-L 13 for 2 years) for applicants holding a PhD degree in a relevant field, or as a PhD position (65% of salary scale TV-L 13 for 3 years) for candidates holding a M.Sc., M.Eng or Dipl. We offer excellent interdisciplinary support, access to state-of-the-art research facilities and instrumentation, and strong connections to international research networks. The place of work will be the Institute for Environmental Sciences Landau, a friendly and international working environment within a region of high living quality.
