Assistant/Associate Professor in Agricultural Systems Science (see attachment):

The Department of Soil and Crop Sciences (SCS) at Colorado State University is recruiting for a tenure-track assistant/associate professor in the field of agricultural systems science. We seek a biophysically-oriented scientist who utilizes a systems perspective to study sustainable agricultural production emphasizing plant- and soil-based processes (water, nutrients, carbon, etc.). Candidates are sought that can link agricultural/cropping systems research with water quality/quantity and other sustainability issues in a water-limited region. SCS is a diverse department with strong Soil and Crop science contingents that directs itself towards multi-disciplinary approaches to environmental issues. The successful candidate will fit with SCS’s mission and will contribute to programs of the College of Agricultural Sciences (CAS) by conducting research and teaching that is responsive to rapidly changing social, political, and environmental contexts and oriented toward finding solutions to critical environmental problems positioned within the food/water/energy nexus. This tenure track position is a 50% research, 40% teaching, and 10% outreach appointment on a 9-month contract. Information regarding the department, programs and degrees offered can be viewed at http://soilcrop.agsci.colostate.edu/
The successful applicant will be expected to develop a nationally recognized research program within the arena of agriculture systems dynamics/resilience with a focus on sustainable production systems when water resources are limited or variable. Research topics include, but are not limited to: analysis of management impacts on soil and nutrients, water quality and use, biogeochemical cycling and energy use efficiency and yield; landscape level dynamics of productivity, water and nutrients; and/or analysis of techniques to improve water and nutrient efficiency in cropping systems; especially in regions with limited irrigation. The successful candidate will teach an undergraduate course in some aspect of Soil-Crop Management and Sustainable Agriculture, Agricultural Biogeochemistry/Fertility, or other topics, and will contribute to the Department’s overall teaching needs at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
The candidate will also interact with faculty at CSU focusing on Water Science and Climate Change.
