Junior Professorship in Climate System Analysis

The Institute of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Potsdam together with the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) e. V. invite applications for a joint W1-Junior-Professorship in Climate System Analysis with tenure track option, starting at the earliest possible date.
The position should complement the existing professorships in Climate Physics both in teaching and research.
The applicant's research should be focussed on the interaction of climate and ice sheets in the past and in the future. The successful candidate will be employed in the research do-main Earth System Analysis at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research.
Expertise in the following research fields is specifically requested:
modeling of continental ice-sheets and shelves;
development of conceptual and numerical models;
interaction of ice sheets with the ocean and the atmosphere;
recent and future mass balance changes of Greenland and Antarctica;
sea-level rise.
The successful applicant is expected to contribute actively to the teaching program of the Institute of Physics and Astronomy, both in fundamental physics as well as in the bachelor and master program for climate physics.
According to State law (Brandenburgisches Hochschulgesetz - BbgHG), preconditions for the appointment as a Junior Professor include a completed university education, teaching skills, and a special qualification for academic work, which is usually demonstrated though an outstanding PhD thesis. International experience, an outstanding publication record and a teaching record are advantageous. The total time for completion of the PhD and subse-quent post-doc employment should not have exceeded six years. Appointments are made according to §§ 38 and 44 BbgHG. The appointment as a civil servant or a public employee will be made for up to four years in the first instance and can be extended to up to 6 years in total, conditional upon a positive evaluation.
