The responsibility of the doctoral researcher will be to investigate cycling of carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) in soils along a climate gradient in the Coastal Cordillera of Chile. More specifically, the tasks of the PhD student will be (i) to quantify the age of total organic C and CO2-C in soils and saprolites of the climate gradient using 14C, (ii) to study microbial respiration and microbial biomass in soils and saprolites of the climate gradient, and (iii) to investigate N2 fixation in soils of the climate gradient.

Qualifications
• Successfully completed Master's degree in geoecology, soil science, microbiology, environmental sciences or similar
• Experience in lab work (soil science, environmental chemistry, environmental microbiology, etc.)
• Ability to conduct soil sampling campaigns in Chile
• Proficiency in English and very good writing skills
