Dear Colleagues and Friends,

The 6th International Workshop on Catchment Hydrological Modeling and Data Assimilation (CAHMDA-VI) will be held jointly with the 3rd International Workshop on Data Assimilation for Operational Hydrology and Water Management of the Hydrologic Ensemble Prediction Experiment (HEPEX-DAFOH III) in Austin, Texas, USA, September 8-12, 2014. As a continuation of the past successful workshops of CAHMDA and HEPEX-DAFOH, the Austin workshop focuses on assessing recent advances in modeling, observations, and data assimilation approaches with a goal to understand, observe and predict hydrological processes and to build synergism with operational hydrology. Particular attention will be given to extreme events, such as droughts and floods, as well as the development and application of data assimilation approaches to improving operational hydrological forecasting and water resources management.

Invited key notes, short poster presentations and extensive discussions will be main forms of the workshop. The pre-workshop data assimilation training course and post-workshop excursions will be organized.

The website has been set up; see http://www.jsg.utexas.edu/ciess/cahmda-vi-hepex-dafoh-iii/. During the workshop (September 8-12, 2014), there will be eight sessions, namely, 1) extreme events: detection, 2) extreme events: modeling, 3) extreme events: predictability, 4) utilization of multi-source observations, 5) data assimilation development and evaluation, 6) developing synergism with operational hydrology, 7) advancing data assimilation science for operational hydrology, and 8) real-world applications of data assimilation in operational hydrology; see http://www.jsg.utexas.edu/ciess/cahmda-v...h-iii/sessions/ for details. The chairs and keynote speakers for each of these sessions have been identified.

The website is open for submission of abstracts for keynote talks and poster presentations, with deadline on May 30, 2014; see http://www.jsg.utexas.edu/ciess/cahmda-v...act-submission/. The registration deadline is July 20, 2014.

Please feel free to pass this message onto those who are interested. We look forward to seeing you for a stimulating and fruitful workshop!

Sincerely,

Zong-Liang Yang, Dong-Jun Seo, Todd Caldwell, and Long Zhao

On behalf of the Organizing Committee
