The Institute for Environmental Sciences Landau, University Koblenz-Landau, Campus Landau is inviting applications for a
Scientist position with the possibility for PhD (three years 0,65 EGr. 13 TV-L) for research in the DFG project „MUCILAGE: the hydraulic bridge between root and soil“.
The DFG project MUCILAGE assesses the role of the mucilage gel exudated by plant roots for the water uptake of plants. The interdisciplinary research involves collaboration with University Göttingen (Jun.-Prof. Dr. Andrea Carminati; soil physics) and UFZ Halle (Prof. Dr. Doris Vetterlein; rhizosphere scientist). The successful candidate will investigate the properties of the mucilage gel around plant root tips and in soil and its function for water uptake and conservation in the plant.
The project links soil science with physicochemical approaches on the basis of known methods soil physicochemical methods and 1D and 2D Proton NMR Relaxometry to investigate water mobility in the gels. Further information on the project and links to relevant publications can be
found at
http://www.uni-koblenz-landau.de/landau/...ojekte/mucilage
The position requires a Master’s (M.Sc.) degree or diploma degree with focus on soil science or physical chemistry. Understanding of and soil chemistry and physical chemistry will be helpful and the willingness to work with the NMR methods is advantageous.
Equal opportunities is a cornerstone of our staff policy at University Koblenz-Landau. Applications from women are therefore particularly welcome. We also welcome applications from disabled persons who will be preferred in case of equal qualification.
Applications should include the CV, scans or copies of certificates and degrees as well as an up-to date list of publications. They should be sent by April 25th, 2014, mentioning the reference number 40/2014, in one single pdf file per email to schaumann@uni-landau.de. Interviews will
most probably be on 16th and 19th May, 2014.
