The interdisciplinary PhD-project combines environmental fluid dynamics and freshwater ecology by studying the interactions between currents and stream invertebrates. Based on laboratory and field experiments, the study aims at obtaining mechanistic understanding of the relationship between the diversity of the flow field and the taxonomic and trait diversity of invertebrates. The project is a cooperation between the Environmental Physics and Landscape Ecology groups at the Institute for Environmental Sciences University of Koblenz-Landau and the department River Ecology of the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research - UFZ and is expected to strongly interact with a variety of ongoing research projects.

Your profile:
- Master of Science (or equivalent) in Environmental Physics, Environmental Sciences or other relevant fields
- Strong interest and scientific background at the interface between hydrodynamics and freshwater ecology
- Capability of conducting independent research, excellent skills in English language and scientific writing
