Postdoctoral Research Associate Position in Forest Soils/Land Reclamation

The successful candidate will participate in a project that aims to gain a better understanding of salt movement and soil-plant relationships in layered-reconstructed soils under the influence of saline ground water. Research results will be used for developing techniques for land reclamation that minimize the risk of salt migration into the rooting zone.

In addition to working within the project, independent lines of research in associated areas are encouraged. There is ample room to develop one’s own research interest.

Funding is available for one year with the possibility for renewal for a second year depending on the continued availability of funding and the performance of the postdoc. A competitive salary will be provided. The position is located at the University of Alberta in Edmonton.

Persons with training in soil science (solute movement, soil water and biogeochemistry, modeling), ecology, forestry, environmental sciences, or other related fields are encouraged to apply.

Ability to communicate effectively in English and evidence of productivity from previous work and/or evidence of strong ability to publish in quality peer-reviewed journals are essential. The candidate must be highly motivated, able to work independently but at the same time be a good team player. The candidate also needs to have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.

The position is available from September 1, 2014, or as soon as possible thereafter.
