PhD position at University Göttingen

#1 von Karsten , 17.05.2017 21:03

The Bioclimatology group (http://www.uni-goettingen.de/bioclimatology) at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen is offering a position for a

1 Ph.D. student

in the project OXYFLUX - Oxygen flux measurements as a new tracer for the carbon and nitrogen cycles in terrestrial ecosystems funded by the European Research Council (ERC).

The position is limited by three years and should be filled for July/August 2017. The salary is in accordance with the German public service salary scale (TV-L E13) with 65% (Ph.D. student), which corresponds to 25.9 working hours per week.

Your duties
OXYFLUX will investigate various aspects of oxygen exchange processes between the land surface and the atmosphere ranging from local to global scale in order to better understand the terrestrial carbon cycle. In this PhD project, we want to investigate the elemental composition of plant and soil material of various ecosystems globally, infer the oxidative status and link it to oxygen flux measurements.

Tasks include sampling, analysis and interpretation of organic samples from plants and soils from various ecosystems worldwide and their oxidative ratios, developments of a sampling strategy and sample analysis in the lab, traveling to Russia and Indonesia, presentation of results nationally and internationally, publishing in peer-reviewed journals. The doctoral thesis is expected to be written as a series of English manuscripts.

Your profile
• Completed university degree in environmental sciences or related discipline (plant ecology, geoecology, soil sciences, biology, botany, biochemistry)
• Knowledge of experimental lab or field work, as well as statistical knowledge (preferably R) is desirable.
• Proficiency in English
