Research Assistant (PhD position) soil ecology (Goettingen)

The JFB-Institut für Zoologie and Anthropologie at the Georg-
August-Universität Göttingen is offering a PhD position of a

Research Assistant (PhD position)

with 65% of a full position subject to the final funding agreement.
Regular working hours will be (currently 25,9 hours per week) with
a limited contract of 3 years. This position should be filled by March
1st 2017. Salary: Pay grade E13 TV-L.
The position is part of the European joint research project SoilClim
within the BiodivERsA network. SoilClim is dedicated to
investigate interrelationships between agricultural soil biodiversity
and the provisioning of soil related ecosystem services in face of
changing climatic conditions. Experimental sites will range from
Sweden to Germany / Switzerland to Spain.

Your duties
As part of the project team the Research Assistant will investigate the
response of soil animal communities to extended summer drought
conditions by focusing on functionally important decomposer soil
animal taxa such as Collembola and Oribatida. Further, soil functions
such as litter decomposition as affected by drought will be
investigated. We expect the willingness to travel frequently
throughout Europe for visiting field sites, project meetings and
collaboration with the partners within the SoilClim consortium.

Your profile
• You hold a completed master’s/diploma degree in biological
sciences or a closely related field.
• You have a background or strong interest in soil ecology, soil
biodiversity, and/or conceptions of sustainable agriculture.
• You have experience in statistical methods and you are familiar
in using R. Previous experience in field research would be an
advantage.
• You have good oral and written English language skills. As
SoilClim is a European Joint project skills in a further European
language such as Spanish are highly welcome.
